ARTHUR B. POOLE
1905 - 1975
The
Harwinton Outstanding Citizen Award was originally
established in 1975 as the Arthur B. Poole Award.
Mr. Poole helped create the town's Board of Finance
in 1949 and the Zoning Commission in 1952. He served
on the Board of Finance for more than 25 years as
it's Chairman. His dedication and service to the Town
of Harwinton and its people will long be remembered,
for he made it a better and happier place in which
to live.
This
annual honor for volunteerism by a Harwinton citizen
became the Harwinton Outstanding Citizen Award in
2005 to more specifically reflect the contributions
of the honorees.
A rotating
committee of Harwinton residents selects the recipient
of this award that honors volunteerism and community
involvement. To be eligible for the award, a candidate
must be a resident of Harwinton for a minimum of 5
years and must be actively engaged in the civic affairs
of the town, whether elected, appointed, or voluntary.
