I am the town's
third Official Historian. I was appointed to this
volunteer position on June 20th, 2006 after the
passing of Lloyd Shanley, who served in this capacity
for many years. Raymond Bentley who also served
as Historian for many years preceded Lloyd.
I believe
strongly in preservation. Preservation of not
only our historical sites but preserving the history
of our town and surrounding area through an education
of our past, an appreciation of our present and
a focus on our future.
I grew up
on South Road and have deep ancestral roots in
Harwinton. My Grandmother was a Barber and my
Great Grandmother was a Catlin, making me a 5th
Great-Grandson of Abijah Catlin, one of our earliest
and most respected settlers.
I am a former 20 year member
of the Harwinton Historic District and Historic
Properties Commission, a former Board member of the T.A. Hungerford Memorial Museum, The Harwinton Historical
Society, . I am also the Barber
Family Historian and the self appointed Historian
of the Plaskett Family.
Now retired,
after 32 years with a local Aerospace Company,
I look forward to serving the town, and all interested
parties, in this capacity. I encourage everyone
to participate in this web site, which will be
a central repository for all of us to share stories
and remembrances of Harwinton.
Please feel
free to contact me through any of the means identified
above with questions, suggestions and, most importantly,
with stories to share.
