Marion B. Thierry
of Litchfield Road has been selected as this year’s
recipient.
Mrs. Thierry, a lifelong resident, has been assistant
town clerk since 1966 and recently became an associate
certified municipal clerk. She is also known for her
activities in the Harwinton Agricultural Society, of
which she has been a member since 1947. She served as
secretary for the organization from 1972 to 1978 and,
as of this date, is the director of it.
She was also secretary of the Association of Connecticut
Fairs from 1974 to 1977 and recently held the office
of major fair director.
Mrs. Thierry compiled and computed the Tax Rate Book
in Harwinton from 1954 to 1967 and served as secretary
of the Region 10 Board of Education from 1958 to 1967.
She was registrar of voters from 1960 to 1965 and was
a member of the Litchfield Hills Regional Planning Agency
from 1966 to 1967. She was also on the committee which
began the Memorial Day parade in Harwinton in 1960.
In addition, Mrs. Thierry worked in scouting as a den
mother and in the 4-H Club as a leader. She is director
and vice president of the Harwinton Historical Society,
a member of Harwinton Homemakers, a director of the
West Cemetery Association and an organist for the Immaculate
Heart of Mary Church, where she is a communicant.
Mrs. Thierry is also a driver for the Harwinton Volunteer
Ambulance Association and has been active for the past
30 years in both the American Cancer Society and the
Red Cross. She is currently a volunteer for the Services
to the Armed Forces and Veteran’s program.
She was appointed in 1976 to the Governor’s Vacation
Travel Council in the Tourism Division of the state
Department of Commerce.
Mrs. Thierry, the widow of Edward C. Thierry, is the
mother of three children, Charles, Peter and Candance.
