PETER
B. THIERRY
Peter B. Thierry has been selected
as the 2006 recipient of the annual Harwinton Outstanding
Citizen Award, which will be presented for 6the 32nd
time at a banquet on Friday, April 28, at the Torrington
Elks Club.
A Harwinton native, Thierry is the third member of his
family to be so honored. His grandfather, Raymond G.
Bentley, was the first recipient of the award (then
known as the Arthur B. Poole Award) in 1975. His mother,
Marion Thierry, received it in 1981.
Thierry currently serves as chairman of the Harwinton
Board of Finance. He previously served four terms as
a Selectman and is a past director of the Harwinton
Agricultural Society. He has also served on the Harwinton
Planning Commission and on the building committees for
Harwinton Town Hall, the Harwinton Library, and Harwinton
Town Garage. He is also a past treasurer of the Harwinton
Youth Sports Association.
“Harwinton is made up of many volunteers and that
is what makes the town strong,” said Thierry upon
being informed of his selection. “I am deeply
humbled to be selected for this award.”
However, Beverly Fortin, who chairs the Harwinton Outstanding
Citizen Award Committee noted, “Peter Thierry’s
contributions to the town far exceed those of the average
volunteer and his willingness to serve Harwinton spans
decades. That’s why he deserves to be honored.”
