First settled in 1731 and "incorporated" in 1737, Harwinton has had a proud and very interesting history. From its beginning as a "Western Land" to serving as today's "Eastern Gateway" to Litchfield County, Harwinton is a town that has strived to maintain its history and rural environment. HARWINTON'S MUNICIPAL HISTORIAN

Roger Plaskett is the town's third official Historian. Roger was appointed on June 20, 2006 after the passing of Lloyd T. Shanley, who served in this capacity for many years. Lloyd was preceded by Raymond Bentley who also served as Historian for many years. Many of the articles and information provided here are the results of the efforts of both Mr. Bentley and Mr. Shanley.
