When I arrived for my first day at Orchard Hill School, I was called "Butch." I believe there were those that if I would be called by Roderick, they would not know me.

It was 5 th grade for me and some change from South School in Torrington. The transformation was spontaneous, and it was as if I had been there forever.

HIGH POINTS
Learning how to swim "Skinny dipping" in the pond up the road in the apple orchard after school and during noon hour.

The walk one and one-half miles to school with newspapers wrapped around my feet to keep them warm. We did not have the comfort of snowmobile boots.

Hanging our wet clothes around the rail of the wood burning stove.

The fort in the wood shed on the back of the school.

Throwing snow balls thru the half-moon hole in the outhouse when Miss Levanduska was inside.

Going to Hudak's for water.

Breaking Jean Chrion's glasses playing "Peggy." Stealing apples on way to school.

Using both sides of the paper--also, scratch paper box. Art days when it was cloudy--no electricity.

Making up snow days on Saturday.

Riding home in Lillian Tibbal's car on rainy days. Always was room for one more in the big Buick..

Picnic at Burr Pond.

Going to movie "Heidi," starring Shirley Temple.

Trip to Torrington Creamery.

Parent's night--with the Plays.

Our Graduation at the Church in Harwinton--gathered Laurel to decorate.
