My family lived on North Road during my school years. It was some walk to school but for some reason we didn’t mind it. Half way we would open our lunch box to see what was for lunch. Sometimes it was better then others. My sister and two brothers, when we arrived home, my mom was bust baking or preparing fresh vegetables from the garden for our supper. She was always busy.
The last day of school was so very special. It was even better if you passed to the next grade! Sometimes it seemed forever before you got the courage to look at your marks.
Oh to be free! Summer seemed to go on and on! There was haying to do, gardening to help with, blue berries to pick (I didn’t like the stink bugs) and then pick over again so fresh blueberry pie and buckle could be made. My mother was the best pie maker. It wasn’t all work; we had plenty of time to play.
I have such wonderful memories of my childhood and adulthood. Now that I am a grandmother of three delicious little boys I look back with fond memories of my entire life!! I would not trade my childhood with any child today.
