At the time the school system was what it was but I don’t think I’d like going back to a one-room school. I certainly did enjoy going to school and looked forward to going. We had some great times!

I remember playing hooky one afternoon and going to see “Gone with the Wind”. Don’t ask me who went, because I can’t remember. But my parents found out before the teacher and I was reprimanded.

Loved to listen to Joe Osteowski? Give his “Up in front of the class talks as they were hilarious! Everyone couldn’t wait to listen to him. Chet and John Wesolowski used to play “Conductor” while standing on one foot leaning against a tree, swinging the other foot in time to our singing. The windows were open and they were across the road. We would all be laughing and needless to say, Miss Higgeston didn’t appreciate it. But she would turn her back to us and I’m sure she had a chuckle too.

Graduation was our highpoint – held at the Harwinton Congregational Church which was packed with parents and relatives.
