I earned my first bicycle by starting
the woodstove each morning prior to the arrival of the
teacher & other pupils. We also had” fake"
fireplace in one corner of the room. Often I was sent
to sit in a corner of it for talking too much. However,
the punishment, apparently, wasn't too effective, as now
in my 70s both friends & family will tell I still
talk when I should be listening.
Mr. Mills often took us to various places as the Bushnell
in Hartford; I corresponded with him for years. Thought
it novel that he kept all our letters on file. The other
day I ran across a folder of poems written by the students
throughout his district. Unfortunately, we are in the
process of moving and I have no idea where to look for
it.
Floyd Blakeslee built a toboggan & we used to get
Miss.Walsh to go for a ride on our lunchtime -she'd scream
bloody murder & that would make our day. Esp. if we
could confuse her as to what time it was and have a longer
lunch period.
