I remember that it was a big event the day our rural supervisor visited, because he didn’t come that often.

I remember how one of the boys had to get to school early to start the fire in the stove to warm the building before the rest of us arrived.

I can remember the big water cooler in the corner with the flat paper cups to drink out of.

I also remember putting our milk containers out in the snow in the wintertime.

There used to be an icy path that seemed to go from the school entrance to the outhouse. At recess we would slide down the path.

I remember walking through the woods as a short cut to get to and from the school. To me it was very scary because we had to walk deep in the woods and it was quite dense and dark. On the way home we were never quite sure if Mr. Brown’s bull or cows would be out in the field.

I also remember there were some grapevines that my brothers would swing on. Once my brother Jim fell and cut his head quite badly as that it needed to be stitched up.

There also was a brook just before we got to (old) route 8 that we enjoyed playing in.
